“This is the type of sweat equity that pays off in the long run,” said DebbieLee Landi, Chair of PALMCOP.  “The South Carolina Archives has been a great supporter of our activities, but this move makes it much easier for us to get immediate access to our disaster recovery supplies in the event of an emergency.”

Escorted and assisted by State Archives employees, PALMCOP Board members used hand trucks, dollys, carts, and a pallet mover to relocate three office supply cabinets and disaster-recovery workshop, promotional, conference, and other PALMCOP-related materials during the all-day move. The Board members who participated in the work day included DebbieLee Landi, Chair; Robert Ryals, Vice-Chair; Heather South, Treasurer; Sara Arnold, District 1 Representative; Autumn Marie Johnson, District 2 Representative; Jennifer Bingham, District 3 Representative; and, Ruth Kilgallon, District 9 Representative.

This is a friendly reminder to all PALMCOP members that your 2012 membership dues should be paid by March 1, 2012. Institutional membership dues are only $20 and individual membership dues are $10. PALMCOP welcomes all library, archive, or museum organizations responsible for the long-term care and preservation of intellectual records of all types. Membership includes reduced admission to our annual conference and access to consultation, training, and other services provided by PALMCOP.

Greetings Fellow PALMCOP-ers,

Last October Gina White and I conducted a presentation at the “Rags to Riches” Conference in Columbia which explained the approach used to justify the need for Winthrop University to invest in a more suitable storage facility for the archives.  Some of you will recall that we used the Time Weighted Preservation Index (TWPI) as an important component of the justification.

The free online tool at http://www.pemdata.org/ , developed by the Image Permanence Institute  and the free online tool developed by  PEMdata web. 

Anyway, I’ve included a copy of the PowerPoint presentation that was used during the presentation for those interested.  The PowerPoint includes the presentation slides and notes, and includes a summarized format of recommended best practices, types of environmental assessments, summaries of assessments, complicating factors, and, short and long term solutions.  The link to the PowerPoint can be accessed at

 PALMCOP & SCFM present our first joint workshop!

Patricia Ewer is the principal of Textile Objects Conservation in Minneapolis, MN. She is a conservation professional with 30+ years experience treating textiles and managing, developing and staffing conservation projects. She will present a lecture and two hours of hands-on demonstration.

 Gina White and Robert Ryals of Winthrop University’s Louise Pettus Archives & Special Collections will present a session on collecting environmental data in storage areas to allocate resources.

 $30 for lunch & sessions  PALMCOP & SCFM members only

Due to the hands-on nature of the workshop, this annual meeting will be limited to 50 (excluding PALMCOP Board).

 The PALMCOP Board meeting will be held during lunch.

 Registration Deadline: October 7

The deadline for applications is August 31.

Purpose: The goal of the scholarship is to promote PALMCOP members’ participation in the organization’s annual conference.

Eligibility: All PALMCOP members in good standing are eligible.

Award: Registration fee for Conference waived.

Documentation required:
1. One-page essay of 500 words or fewer describing the applicant’s career goals and anticipated benefit for attending and/or contribution to be made at the conference. 

2. One letter of recommendation.
